Biography of renowned architectural photographer Steven Brooke. Steven Brooke Architectural Photography Steven Brooke is an internationally recognized photographer of architecture, landscape, and design. Winner of the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome and the National Honor Award in Photography from the American Institute of Architects, he is the photographer of over 40 books on architecture and design and is on the faculty of the University of Miami School of Architecture. Click the image above to find out more about Steven's book. Steven Brooke began his architectural photography career in 1979. Steven received his first camera at the age of four. His childhood mentor, Dr. Frederick Cleveland Test II, introduced him to the work of the Dutch and Italian painters and engravers of the 17 th and 18 th centuries, particularly those whose work featured perspective studies. It was natural that Steven was drawn to this particular field of photography. His first clients included Dennis Jenkins, Suzanne Martinson, Florence Knoll, Mark Hampton, Ben Baldwin, and Carl Abbott. In 1987, he was awarded the American Institute of Architects National Honor Award in Photography. Steven published his first article with Architectural Digest in 1986 and was a Contributing Photographer for over twenty years. Steven Brooke was involved in the early struggles to save the Miami Beach Art Deco District and have it included in the National Registry of Historic Districts. Many cite the 1982 story in Progressive Architecture that featured his cover and editorial photography, and was championed by then-architecture editor David Morton, as the first major publication to bring the district to national attention and respect. His book, Deco Delights , with pioneer preservationist Barbara Capitman, is still considered the seminal book on the history of the Miami Beach Art Deco district. In Miami, Steven Brooke met Robert Davis who was to develop Seaside, Florida, the landmark town that ushered in the New Urbanism movement in town planning. Steven has been Seaside’s photographer of record since its inception, producing three books on the town and contributing photographs to dozens of articles and books. In 1991, Steven Brooke was awarded the Rome Prize by the American Academy in Rome. While at the Academy, he produced a new v edute de Roma (views of Rome) in the style of the 17 th – and 18 th -century Dutch and Italian engravers. Published by Rizzoli, the resulting book was the first volume of its kind in nearly a century, and the first of his now 17 books for Rizzoli. It included essays by renowned scholars John Varriano, Bonna Wescoat, and Malcomb Campbell. Views of Rome received wide critical acclaim and won the AIA International Book Award. While in Rome, Steven photographed the Cappella Paolina, the Pope’s Private chapel, the first photographer in many decades to have been granted such permission. He also contributed to Sarah McPhee’s innovative book on Bernini and the St. Peter’s Bell Towers. Views of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, which Steven Brooke both wrote and photographed, was produced in 1997 when he was a Fellow at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem. Like Views of Rome , it was the first book of its kind in decades. To date, he has been the photographer of 40 books on architecture and design, nine of which he has also written. His publishers include Rizzoli International, Abbeville, Abrams, University of Pennsylvania Press, Pelican, and Clarkson Potter. Steven has released a highly rated course on Udemy entitled "Fundamentals of Architectural Photography and Composition" with 8 hours of on-demand video. In addition, we have included a Steven Brooke Architectural Photography Channel on Archidoodles with the outstanding videos from Steven's YouTube channel. Steven Brooke lives in Miami. • Evolution of the Legal Workplace

Explore how the legal industry is adapting post-pandemic, with a focus on creating flexible, efficient, and culturally enriching workspaces that balance individual and collaborative work, while embracing hybrid work models. < Back 0 Click here to log in and like Source: Gensler - Research & Insight Updated: January 25, 2024 Evolution of the Legal Workplace Explore how the legal industry is adapting post-pandemic, with a focus on creating flexible, efficient, and culturally enriching workspaces that balance individual and collaborative work, while embracing hybrid work models. Barbara Dunn's article of July 5, 2023 entitled "Evolution of the Legal Workplace," published in the American Bar Association's Law Practice Magazine, highlights the changing dynamics of workspace design in the legal industry post-pandemic. The pandemic accelerated the shift towards flexible work environments, with law firms restructuring leases to reduce space and adapt to varying attendance requirements. As a result, firms have experienced a reduction in square footage with a focus on promoting collaboration, productivity, and cultural impact within these spaces. While firms are keen to have employees return to the office, the emphasis has shifted from mere physical presence to creating workspaces that foster learning, career development, and a mix of work environments that cater to individual preferences and well-being. Law firms are now recognizing the importance of balancing individual focused work and collaborative settings, with a shift towards smaller, universal-sized offices and shared spaces that encourage connection. Additionally, there's a trend towards creating office environments that resemble residential comfort with elements of hospitality-design, supporting casual interactions and building a stronger firm culture. The piece underscores the importance of managing real estate efficiently, considering hybrid schedules, and creating a workplace that’s appealing and inclusive, reinforcing the value of in-person collaboration and socializing within the firm. • Sustainable Stormwater Solutions: Embracing LID for Enhanced Stormwater Quantity and Quality Control

As stormwater runoff becomes more severe, leading to destructive flood events that cause significant damage to structures and disrupt daily commerce. The urgency to address these challenges is paramount to safeguarding our communities and the environment. < Back 0 Click here to log in and like Source: Walter P. Moore Website Updated: December 5, 2023 Sustainable Stormwater Solutions: Embracing LID for Enhanced Stormwater Quantity and Quality Control As stormwater runoff becomes more severe, leading to destructive flood events that cause significant damage to structures and disrupt daily commerce. The urgency to address these challenges is paramount to safeguarding our communities and the environment. The article "Sustainable Stormwater Solutions: Embracing LID for Enhanced Stormwater Quantity and Quality Control" by Rucker Simon, P.E. of Walter P. Moore, highlights the escalating challenges posed by climate change to stormwater management. Intensified weather patterns, resulting in extreme rain events, have led to severe stormwater runoff and flooding, causing substantial damage and disrupting communities. The degradation of stormwater quality is another significant concern, with increased pollution levels and nutrient runoff from urban, residential, and agricultural lands. These pollutants contribute to algal blooms and dead zones in aquatic ecosystems. The article stresses the need for multifaceted approaches, including resilient infrastructure and proactive pollution-control measures, to tackle these growing concerns. Traditional stormwater systems, often based on outdated criteria, are inadequate for handling expected future rainfall intensities and associated flood events. Low-impact development (LID) or green infrastructure is presented as an effective solution to address stormwater quantity and quality challenges. LID emphasizes sustainable site planning to maintain ecological systems, reducing peak runoff flows and improving stormwater quality at the source. It includes features like bioretention systems, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting, which help manage runoff, filter pollutants, and enhance aesthetics. The article provides examples of successful LID applications in urban areas, highlighting projects like the Bagby Street Reconstruction in Houston and City Place in the Houston area. These projects demonstrate how LID can effectively mitigate flooding, improve water quality, and contribute to sustainable community development. LID's adaptability for both large-scale master-planned developments and small-scale projects, along with incentives offered by municipalities, positions it as a cost-effective and innovative approach to stormwater management. Overall, LID is showcased as a crucial tool in combating the adverse impacts of climate change on stormwater systems.
