Big Brothers Big Sisters Houston Headquarters are located at 1003 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77002. The envisioned project comprises a three-story steel-framed edifice featuring a glass atrium, a Mentoring Hall of Fame, a café, a children’s playroom, and an event space on the third floor equipped with a full kitchen and an open-air balcony boasting downtown views. The headquarters also accommodates ample open and closed offices to accommodate the organization's anticipated growth. Method Architecture and Stantec generously provided $250,000 worth of architectural and engineering services pro-bono to aid in completing the building. Realizing this vision involved a collaborative effort across multiple phases between Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston and various local entities including individuals, businesses, agencies, and institutions. Outgrowing their previous space, a former doctor’s office outside the 610 loop, the organization sought a new location to expand its services, enhance visibility, and bolster effectiveness and productivity. The project's design journey began with a seed grant from Rice University School of Architecture for initial research. During this phase, the 35-member staff of BBBSGH was individually interviewed to grasp the diverse needs of different teams such as Events and Programming, understanding workflows, interactions, communications, and organizational dynamics. Comparative analyses were conducted on existing local non-profit buildings and BBBS organizations nationwide to glean insights from existing models. Subsequently, the project team, comprising Agency—Agency (project designer) and Method Architecture, collaborated with DMAC Construction, Stantec, and TBG Partners to bring the project to fruition. Emphasizing community engagement, Rice Design Alliance hosted a design charrette for the exterior courtyard, which TBG Partners won following a spirited one-day event involving numerous talented local designers.

Biography of renowned architectural photographer Steven Brooke. < Back 0 Click here to log in and like Source: Steven Brooke Website Updated: September 24, 2023 Steven Brooke is an internationally recognized photographer of architecture, landscape, and design. Biography of renowned architectural photographer Steven Brooke. Steven Brooke Architectural Photography Steven Brooke is an internationally recognized photographer of architecture, landscape, and design. Winner of the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome and the National Honor Award in Photography from the American Institute of Architects, he is the photographer of over 40 books on architecture and design and is on the faculty of the University of Miami School of Architecture. Click the image above to find out more about Steven's book. Steven Brooke began his architectural photography career in 1979. Steven received his first camera at the age of four. His childhood mentor, Dr. Frederick Cleveland Test II, introduced him to the work of the Dutch and Italian painters and engravers of the 17 th and 18 th centuries, particularly those whose work featured perspective studies. It was natural that Steven was drawn to this particular field of photography. His first clients included Dennis Jenkins, Suzanne Martinson, Florence Knoll, Mark Hampton, Ben Baldwin, and Carl Abbott. In 1987, he was awarded the American Institute of Architects National Honor Award in Photography. Steven published his first article with Architectural Digest in 1986 and was a Contributing Photographer for over twenty years. Steven Brooke was involved in the early struggles to save the Miami Beach Art Deco District and have it included in the National Registry of Historic Districts. Many cite the 1982 story in Progressive Architecture that featured his cover and editorial photography, and was championed by then-architecture editor David Morton, as the first major publication to bring the district to national attention and respect. His book, Deco Delights , with pioneer preservationist Barbara Capitman, is still considered the seminal book on the history of the Miami Beach Art Deco district. In Miami, Steven Brooke met Robert Davis who was to develop Seaside, Florida, the landmark town that ushered in the New Urbanism movement in town planning. Steven has been Seaside’s photographer of record since its inception, producing three books on the town and contributing photographs to dozens of articles and books. In 1991, Steven Brooke was awarded the Rome Prize by the American Academy in Rome. While at the Academy, he produced a new v edute de Roma (views of Rome) in the style of the 17 th – and 18 th -century Dutch and Italian engravers. Published by Rizzoli, the resulting book was the first volume of its kind in nearly a century, and the first of his now 17 books for Rizzoli. It included essays by renowned scholars John Varriano, Bonna Wescoat, and Malcomb Campbell. Views of Rome received wide critical acclaim and won the AIA International Book Award. While in Rome, Steven photographed the Cappella Paolina, the Pope’s Private chapel, the first photographer in many decades to have been granted such permission. He also contributed to Sarah McPhee’s innovative book on Bernini and the St. Peter’s Bell Towers. Views of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, which Steven Brooke both wrote and photographed, was produced in 1997 when he was a Fellow at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem. Like Views of Rome , it was the first book of its kind in decades. To date, he has been the photographer of 40 books on architecture and design, nine of which he has also written. His publishers include Rizzoli International, Abbeville, Abrams, University of Pennsylvania Press, Pelican, and Clarkson Potter. Steven has released a highly rated course on Udemy entitled "Fundamentals of Architectural Photography and Composition" with 8 hours of on-demand video. In addition, we have included a Steven Brooke Architectural Photography Channel on Archidoodles with the outstanding videos from Steven's YouTube channel. Steven Brooke lives in Miami. He is an Adjunct Professor in the University of Miami’s School of Architecture.
